Implant Sedation Dentistry and Lady Gaga
Just saw the Lady Gaga Monster Ball show this past Friday in Dallas, Tx. What an awesome show! Lady Gaga is extremely talented and put on an absolutely amazing concert! The music, the outfits, and the energy were all phenomenal! On one part of the stage, in bright neon lights it says, "Implants Sedation Dentistry." How cool is that! As an Austin and Lakeway Dentist, it was pretty cool and exciting to see that sign as part of the set and stage!
The clear way to straighten teeth
At our office, we offer Invisalign clear braces treatment to help our patients get straighter teeth and to improve their smiles! Invisalign uses clear plastic trays, called aligners to straighten teeth over a specified course of time( usually between 10-18 months). Invisalign is different than traditional metal braces because with Invisalign there is no wires, brackets, or metal and the trays are removable! Invisalign can also be used with Teens, usually 14 year old and older. If you're interested in getting straighter teeth to get a better smile, a better bite, or to help get your gums healthier, set up a free consult with our office.

After healing, A tooth or crown is placed over the Implant to improve the appearance and restore the function of the missing tooth or teeth. If you have a missing tooth, missing teeth, a bridge, partials or dentures, you may be a candidate for Tooth replacements called Dental Implants. If you have questions about Austin Implant Dentistry or are looking for an Dentist, give us a call!

Lakeway Dentist continues to help with Third World Dental Care
CLIMB FOR A CAUSE (CFAC)
Local Dentist Steps Up to Help Children in Impoverished Countries
Dr Tejas Patel of Lakeway, Texas has decided to take a major challenge head on-attempting to hike to the 10,047 ft summit of The Middle Sister, near Bend, Oregon- to benefit children throughout the world.
The Event occurs over Labor Day Weekend (September 4-6, 2010) in the Three Sisters Wilderness. In Oregon, Dr. Patel joins a team of similarly motivated dentists from across the country, coming together in support of the Climb for a Cause annual fundraising event.
This climb will be the 13th annual in support of CFAC, an international non-profit organization that funds oral health education and treatment projects in Nepal and Guatemala. It is Dr. Patel’s first climb with the organization.
“I recently have done dental mission trips to Peru and Nicaragua and saw how much individuals in third world countries are in need of dental care and how there is just no access for them to get dental care. I also got to see how many people we could help by setting up a clinic and completing dental treatment. CFAC is great way for me to give back and help those in need in impoverished countries by helping fund dental projects and clinics.”
“We’re thrilled to have Dr. Patel on this year’s Summit Team.” says Daniel A. ‘Danny’ Bobrow, CFAC’s executive director, “It’s always gratifying to become newly acquainted with yet another doctor whose heart is so big and generous to a fault.”
Please contact Dr. Patel’s Lakeway Dental Office at (512) 263-8337 to learn more about CFAC or to lend your support please visit http://www.active.com/donate/CFAC2010/tejaspatel. Dr. Patel and his Team look forward to sharing the joy of giving with the Lakeway and Austin communities to help put big smiles on little faces one smile (and one step) at a time.

Teeth Whitening 101
Today, there's so many options for getting whiter teeth in Austin. Whitening is a great and affordable way to brighten up your smile and make your smile look younger! From over the counter products to Laser Whitening at the Dental Office, here's a summary of some good options!
1. Over the counter products - Whitening toothpastes are great, just make sure they're not too abrasive or gritty in texture. This can slowly abrade the enamel over time. Crest White Strips work well for lightly stained teeth and also for younger individuals. Treatment time is usually 30 minutes each day over a course of 2 weeks. White strips are usually around $50 or below. We highly recommend Sonicare Toothbrushes (a little over $100), they're great at keeping stain off your teeth!
2. At the Dental Office- Custom made whitening trays are based off of a mold taken at your Dentist's office. From the molds, models are made and thin plastic trays are molded over the models. You're given a whitening gel to fill the trays with and then place the tray over your teeth. The tray is worn for about 60-90 minutes. Depending on the level of stain, you may have to use the trays for up to 2 weeks. Results are usually very good with the trays if they're worn consistently for the recommended treatment time. Price of trays can vary with each office, but range from $100-250 for both upper and lower trays. You can expect your teeth to get several shades lighter with proper use.
3. Laser Teeth Whitening- Zoom is the most popular Laser Whitening Treatment available. Upon your visit to the Dentist office, your teeth are first polished and cleaned. Then a barrier is placed over the lips, gums, and cheeks as protection. Whitening gel is then placed over your teeth and then activated by a Laser Light that shines on your teeth. The procedure usually takes about 1.5hrs. Laser Whitening definitely has the most dramatic effects, because the results are instant. We usually see teeth getting many shades lighter, just after 1.5hrs. Price of Zoom can vary from $400 up to $700.

Solutions for Crooked Teeth-- Austin Cosmetic Dentistry
If you've been wondering about solutions to improve your smile and specifically straighten crooked teeth, read on! As we age our teeth tend to shift and get more crooked over time. Obviously this causes an issue with the appearance of one's smile but can also contribute to gum health issues as well. Crooked teeth tend to be harder to clean and can cause plaque and tartar to build in areas that are harder to keep clean. Some options for getting a straighter smile include clear braces (Invisalign) or porcealin veneers. If there is major crowding of the teeth, braces may be the best option. Many time we can use clear braces to straighten teeth and improve the smile. Invisalign works great and is clear, easy to use, and removable. Porcelain veneers are another way to get teeth straighter. We usually recommend veneers if the crowding is mild and the teeth are discolored or may be structurally weaker. Dr Patel practices general dentistry and cosmetic dentistry.
