Want to Improve Your Golf Game?

Do you snore? Feel sleepy during the day? Have to drink cups and cups of coffee just to stay awake? Do you feel unfocused during your golf game?
If you answered yes to any of the above questions, you may suffer from sleep apnea. Sleep Apnea is sleep breathing disorder that is often undiagnosed, extremely detrimental to your health, and can even be fatal. Nobody ever thinks that the quality of your sleep could have anything to do with the quality of your golf game, but there’s new research that shows there is a definite link between the two. A recent study from the American College of Chest Physicians showed that golfers who suffered from obstructive sleep apnea and were treated for this condition improved their awareness, focus, and improved their golf scores! We all know that golf requires focus and concentration which a lack of quality sleep will effect. If you can’t think clearly, your game is on the line.
"More so than many sports, golf has a strong intellectual component, with on-course strategizing, focus and endurance being integral components to achieving good play," says Dr. Marc Benton, co-author of the study mentioned above. He also states that, "Obstructive sleep apnea can lead to daytime sleepiness, fatigue and cognitive impairment, all side effects which can negatively impact a person's ability to golf to the best of one's ability."
Dr Benton also estimates that 1 to 3 million golfers have Obstructive Sleep Apnea and are either untreated or undiagnosed. Are you one of them?

In the Community

We volunteered this past Friday at the Rotary Suites in Marble Falls. It was alot of fun! Myself, Leticia(my Dental Assistant) and Melissa(our Dental Hygienist) were out there for a half day giving back! We got to help so many patients from the Marble Falls, Llano, Burnett area that don't have the means to complete thier dental work but are in severe need. The Rotary Suites were established by three area Rotary Clubs and with the inspiration of Dr. Hernandez and Dr. Morris. It was such a great clinic! We got to do cleanings, fillings and extractions. It was a great way to spend our Friday Morning! We'll be back out there in a few weeks and we're super excited! Thanks to all of those who set up the clinic, it's such an admirable accomplishment!

A good first impression and a great lasting impression

What do you think is the first thing people notice about you when you first meet? Your haircut? Your eyes? Your clothes? Your smile? If you said your smile, you're right! What's also interesting is that your smile is what people tend to remember you by after you've met. So, if you're looking to make a good impression and a great lasting impression, check out your smile. Because like it or not, the people you interact with are taking notice of your smile. Everyday we get to help people get healthy and smile even more!

Same Day Service

This morning we got to help out another one of our great guests. Our guest had fractured their tooth while eating and needed it fixed. Since a significant portion of the tooth was broken off and there was a large old filling with a cavity there, we recommended a bonded porcelain restoration to rebuild and strengthen the tooth. Porcelain is a great option because it looks so natural and is extremely durable and long lasting. By doing a bonded porcelain restoration, we were able to conserve all of her remaining healthy tooth structure versus a traditional crown. This process usually takes a minimum of two separate visits to the office. The greatest part of what we were able to do today is that we fitted, placed, and completed the porcelain restoration all today!

We have CEREC technology in our office that allows us to take a digital image of the tooth (so no messy impressions), design the desired result using computer software and then mill the exact piece of designed porcelain, all in the same visit. It didn't even take that much longer than a normal visit and while we were waiting for the milling of the porcelain, we actually completed more dental work that needed to be done! Our guest received a great looking, long lasting and healthy porcelain restoration and caught up with their dental care all in one visit. That means no temporary restoration to wear for a few weeks and no having to come back and spend more time at the office. We know that our guests are busy. The CEREC technology helps minimize the number of visits and time away from work, by giving us the ability to provide same day service. We can also use this technology for making strong and natural looking porcelain crowns in one visit as well. How cool is that!!

Now Introducing the UnderArmour Performance Mouthwear

You've been hearing the buzz, now find out about the latest sports trend! Under Armour, yes The Under Armour Compnay has just released a scientifically tested and proven Performance Mouthpiece that is worn during sports. So, for those of you who play tennis, run, cycle, practice yoga, work out, play golf, or are involved in any other contact or non-contact sports activity....Here's a way to reduce stress, decrease sports-related impact injuries, speed up your reaction time, increase your endurance and help you focus more and play better!

Did you know you naturally clench your jaw and teeth when you train and compete? You do. It’s part of your brain’s hard wiring and response to your “fight or flight” mechanism. Whenever you clench your jaw your TMJ(temporomandibular joint) compresses and releases excessive amounts ofcortisol hormones into your body. Cortisol wreaks havoc on your body and produces stress, fatigue, and distraction. We all know that when playing a sport, running, or just working out being focused is a key factor indetermining our success.

*Imagine winning more, practicing better, and performing better all with a performancemouthpiece. Don’t believe it? Check out some of the You Tube Videos at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xi-OM2oHRsM

Here’s what independent studies conducted at some of USA’s top universities and research centers have proven the Under ArmourPerformance Mouthwear can do for you:
*Increases Strength* by improving airflow and less stress from clenching your jaw.
*Increases Endurance* by decreasing lactic acid build-up and decreasing burning sensations felt after a work out.
*Speeds Up Reaction Time* for athletes and improves response to auditory & visual cues. *Reduces Stress* by reducing cortisol production in your body making you feel and play better.
*Reduces Impact* of jaw-related injuries and *decreases the chance of concussion* by up to 20%.

Under Armour Mouthwear is not just a mouthguard. Mouthguards provide protection only. Under Armour Mouthwear is used by athletes who want to excel in their sport or activity because this special mouthwear actually enhances performance.

So why not help yourself by unlocking the power being blocked by yourjaw? Once fitted you can receive your Mouthpiece in as little as 10 days and start enjoying the innovation and technology that will make you stronger, faster, and better at whatever activity you choose. To get your own Mouthpiece, simply call our office to schedule your appointment today. With the New Year we're offering some great promotional pricing!

And if you see me at the Gym, ask me about it, I'll be the one who's super focused and getting more out of my workout!!
