Dr Patel volunteers at local LT Love Dental Care Event

Dr Patel and team volunteered this afternoon with LT Love's first Dental Care Day. LT Love hopes to make this an annual event! Dr Patel and other local Drs were able to see over 70 patients today. The patients were local Lake Travis school kids in need of dental screening and dental care. Thanks to LT Love and Dr Robinson for their support! We're looking forward to next year!

Laser Dentistry and Laser Periodontal Treatment

We're excited to announce that our Dental Hygienist is now certified to perform Laser Periodontal and other treatments. In our Austin & Lakeway Dental office we've been using a soft tissue laser to perform various procedures like laser gum contouring for gummy smiles, cosmetic gum procedures, and frenectomy procedures for braces/orthodontic treatment. Now we're offering laser treatment for the following:
•Treating of Aphtous Ulcers and Herpetic Lesions
•Reducing bacteria associated with gum disease and helping sterilize the gum pockets after periodontal treatment

Our guest wanted to replace the large silver filling on the back tooth and the porcelain metal crown on the tooth in front of it. She wanted an option to fix her teeth with no metal. We completed two porcelain restorations on her back two teeth that looked more natural than what she had before. Also, the restorations we used were metal free, so no dark lines at the gum line and no darkness on her tooth to be seen when she spoke or laughed. Lakeway Dentist returns from Dental Mission Trip in Peru

Lakeway and Austin Dentist, Dr Tejas Patel returned from a week long Dental Mission Trip to Peru. Dr Patel says the following about his experience volunteering in Peru, " It was truly amazing, we got to help out so many people. The people were so great and welcoming! I'm looking forward to the next time!" Dr Patel travelled with Kindess in Action a Canadian based non profit organization that sets up Dental Clinics in Central and South America, Africa and Southeast Asia. There were 6 total Dentists, 2 Dental Hygienists and a team of 18 others who volunteered during the Peru Trip. The team set up a free Dental Clinic in Yuquay, a small town in the Sacred Valley. The closest bg city is Cusco, which is an hour away by bus. The team worked 4 and a half days and saw around 400 patients, including children and adults. They were able to do hundreds of fillings and extractions and cleanings. The population doesn't have access to dental care so this is often the most care they've ever receive. Dr Patel says, " the great thing about the trip was that we did many more fillings than extractions which translates into, we were able to save many more teeth than normal that would have otherwise have been pulled." Dr Patel was the only American on the trip and was joined by an all Canadian team. Third world dentistry and Giving Back are two of Dr Patel's passions and he says," I'm so fortunate to have had such an amazing opportunity and experience to give back internationally!" Dr Patel enjoys the Spanish Language, it was even his major in college. The trip also gave him the opportunity to brush up on his Spanish skills. Dr Patel gives back locally as well by volunteering in a Rotary Dental Clinic in Marble Falls and will soon be volunteering at a local Lakeway Dental Clinic associated with the Lakeway Church. Lake Travis Fit Expo at the Lake Travis High School

Local Lakeway Dentist, Dr. Tejas Patel attended The Lake Travis Fit Expo today. It was a great event put on by Lake Travis ISD and held at the Lake Travis High School. They had different tables set up that taught the kids about health, nutrition, physical activity, gardening and much more! They also had a activity area which got all the kids to burn off some energy!! Each table gave a stamp on a passport once you completed an activity. Once you collected eight stamps, you got a prize! It was a lot of fun!

Lakeway Dentist off to Peru in March for Dental Mission Trip

Local Lakeway Dentist, Dr. Tejas Patel has joined Kindess In Action for an upcoming Dental Mission Trip this March 2010. Kindess In Action is a Canadian based non-profit that provides dental care for underserved areas in third world countries. They have completed trips and provided dental care for people in Central and South America as well as the Phillipines. Dr. Tejas Patel will be 1 of 3 Dentists traveling to Peru as well as a team of 20 others (including Dental Assistants, Dental Hygienist and volunteers). Dr. Patel is the only one from the United States on the trip. All of the other team members are from Canada. The team will set up a dental clinic outside of Cusco, Peru in the Sacred Valley. They will be able to perform exams, teeth extractions, fillings and cleanings. They will also focus on prevention and oral health education for school children. In the 4 days that the clinic is open, the team will get to provide dental care for up to 500 people. All of these people who will be treated have no access to dental care. Dr. Patel reviewed how to take care of your teeth, foods that are good/ bad for your teeth, and discussed what it's like to be a Dentist. The kids were wonderful! Dr. Patel strives to stay involved in the community. Speaking to individuals young and old about dental health, dental care and the dental profession is one of Dr. Patel's passions.

We had an amazing time at the 2010 Lake Travis Education Foundation Crystal Ball! This annual Lakeway event is always so much fun! The silent and live auctions were filled with fantastic items! We can't wait to see what we won later this week! The Ballroom looked spectacular at the Renaissance Hotel in the Arboretum in Northwest Austin, Tx. The music from the Spasmatics brought back some 80's flashbacks! It was great seeing friends, new and old, as well as many of our awesome clients! The LTEF does so many great things for our Lake Travis school district and Lakeway schools. It was so wonderful to see a great turn out and the support of the Lakeway community for such a memorable event!
